A Southern Favorite!
Cheesy and gooey using both sharp white cheddar cheese and American cheese - baked to perfection
Instructions
In a large pot over med-high heat - heat butter and olive oil. Pre-heat the oven to 350°F.
Add onions and cook until translucent about 3-5 minutes . Add the flour and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
Add the milk slowly whisking as it thickens. Add the nutmeg and stir. Then add the cheeses and stir to blend.
Once the sauce has thickened (if to thick add additional milk to thin - if too thin add additional cheese.
Add the cooked macaroni and stir.
Butter a deep baking dish, I use my 8 qt. Dutch oven. Pour Macaroni and Cheese into baking dish.
Cover the top with the bread crumbs and bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until brown and bubbly.
Sprinkle chopped parsley on top after removing from the oven.
