A Groovy Little Thing Called…A Donut
Ok…who doesn’t like or even love a donut? Especially a small made to order gourmet style donut hand crafted right before your eyes in a funky little 1970’s themed bakery. That is exactly what Peace, Love and Little Donuts does on every visit. We discovered this place after my daughter Mallory (the donut princess of the family) told us about a cool place that her best friend Gaby raves about near the Kent State University campus in Kent, Ohio. I pulled the following from their website…
Ron and Marci Razete founded Peace, Love and Little Donuts in, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They packed up their careers to pursue something, well, smaller…little donuts, of course! Launched in 2009, Peace, Love and Little Donuts opened its first donut shop in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District- where all the cool people hang out. Right away, Ron and Marci knew they had something special. The people from around Pittsburgh smelled their way to the shop and stood in line to see Ron, Marci and their five kids, hand-make and hand-decorate each yummy little donut with the craziest toppings they could think of.The donuts which are small cake donuts are made fresh all day long served warm and then assembled with your topping choices right in the bakery per your order. Each shop offers, Groovy – Any of their little donuts with Groovy toppings, such as Cinnamon Sugar, Powered Sugar, Saigon Cinnamon, Ginger Sugar, Honey Glazed and Maple Sugar. The next step in hip donuts are the options called Far Out – These are little donuts with frostings. Choices include Vanilla, Chocolate, Maple, Raspberry, Strawberry, Orange, Banana, Lemon and a fan favorite Mocha. Then for the ultimate donut experience there is Funkadelic – donuts that have frosting, plus crazy toppings that make-up their famous options, Maple Bacon, S’mores, Salted Chocolate, Cherry Cheesecake, Apple Pie, Samoa, Raspberry Lemonade and Boston Cream Pie just to name a few. The day we visited the Kent location one of the favorites in our group was the Samoa Donut, yep just like the Girl Scout Cookie in a donut form and we also liked the Kent Crunch (topped with chopped Kit Kats) there was also a peanut butter one called the Buckeye. Expect long lines, we arrived there after 4:30pm and the line formed a serpentine from the counter to the back of the bakery and back to the front and out the door. Midway in line there is a revolving triple tiered display of the Funkadelic offerings for the location. While more expensive than the typical supermarket or local bakery donuts, it is well worth the extra cost if not for the experience alone.
There are multiple location in northeastern Ohio, mainly in the Akron area including: Canal Fulton, Cleveland (Westpark), Green (Akron-Canton), North Canton, Hartville, Hudson, Massillon and Kent. There are several locations located near major colleges and universities such as the two West Virginia locations in Huntington and Morgantown. So get your groove on in a hip way and if you’re ever near a Peace, Love and Little Donuts shop – definitely stop and get funky! Thanks to the extremely hip and oh so funky Gaby Romero for the recommendation!
